Practical coaching
I am a wife, mum, step grandmother, daughter and have enjoyed over 30 years as a trainer and a facilitator focussing on developing skills in people to improve performance in the workplace. I volunteer as a community mediator to resolve issues between neighbours, parents and their teens, and children with anger management issues. I have worked with some incredible individuals and trained hundreds of managers in the FTSE 100 companies and I transferred the knowledge and techniques around communications into raising my children.
Friends and relatives tell me I have an affinity with children, and I often find myself coaching parents I know. A neighbour suggested I write a blog or start a podcast about raising children and I imagined there would be loads of material already available, but was surprised to find there wasn’t much out there at all, so Habits of Good Parents was born!
Working as a mediator I see parents and teens at crisis point, in the majority of cases that I have seen, it is a lack of communication, trust and respect that is at the heart of the issue, I often come away from those meetings thinking if only the parents had had some form of communication skills training at some point.
My style
I have been trained to be a coach by some of the best in the business. Coaching is not counselling and is not about telling you what to do.
My style of coaching is quite informal but with purpose, I work to identify the issues that need a resolution. I ask lots of questions to identify what the current situation is and what the client wants to see as improvement. I don’t think anyone gets it right all the time, for coaching to work the people need to want to improve/do things differently.
As a mediator I get to see parents when they have got to crisis point with their kids, I hope that the coaching sessions give practical tools and techniques to avoid things developing into really unhappy households.

What people say
“Maria has been an amazing support to me and my son to help him with his anxieties and teenage tantrums. She is calm and reflective as well as being passionate and enthusiastic to help. Maria sees situations clearly from both parties and brings a choice of strategies which are considered, practical and realistic to try. I value her insight & would highly recommend her approach.”

So I am planning to set this website up as a place where parents can find practical resources to support them to raise their children. Start by filling in the questionnaire honestly, the information I receive from the data will help me prioritise the content of the social media I publish I will develop blogs, podcasts, YouTube videos and parents can dip in and out as they need.
Parents who have specific issues with their children can fill in the questionnaire and then it might be appropriate that they arrange for a coaching session over Facetime with me.
What I offer
One-hour sessions via Zoom at a time to suit you. I would like as much information as you can give me beforehand so that we make the most of the time on the call.
Bookings will only be taken once the questionnaire results have been reviewed and we have received your pre-booking form back.
At this stage if I don’t think I can be of any help I will contact you and maybe try to help you decide where you might get support from.
If I think I can help, you will be sent a code to book in an appointment slot.
There is a special introductory offer of £100 for the hour’s session, after this period the price will be £200 per hour.
Use code “-100OFF” to have £100 discount for the Introductory Session.
Please note:
- The session needs to be paid in full when booked.
- Cancellations will be accepted within 48hours of the booking, after that time the full amount will still be charged.
Book an appointment
Bookings can only be made with a code that will be given to parents who have completed the questionnaire and returned the pre booking form and I believe would benefit from a coaching session.

How it works?
I am a coach, so I will be working with you initially to understand exactly what it is you want help with. The more time you spend before the session deciding what help you need will mean we can use the time in the session exploring techniques and options for your way forward.
During the session I will be asking questions to establish more about your situation, and then we will agree the next steps and explore new tools and techniques to improve your communication skills.
After the session I will send you a feedback form and you will have the option of follow up sessions if you think you would benefit from them. You can decide if you think you need more sessions, and I will try to accommodate you at an agreed timeframe.
